As a followup question

If it is the 47th anniversary of Minicon 1 that is being celebrated, why would that be considered a "big" anniversary?

I thought it was going to be the 50th Minicon; the count does not agree with the number of years because there were a couple of years with 2 Minicons.

All of the above, and then some?

So what you're saying is, we should just celebrate the 50th Minicon and not the anniversary of something that happened 50 years ago? You literal-minded goofball.

Also how long did you search for something that happened 50 years prior to the 50th Minicon? Maybe Wikipedia makes it easy to do that now.

"being a big anniversary will not attract any additional members",

It's almost like you're quoting someone who has a history of being a bit apeshit with the budgeting, and might have some after-the-fact justification. Either that or I'm projecting my own feelings onto this.

It's from the second paragraph of the Budget section on page two of the Minicon 50 proposal that I linked to.

Yes it is. There are many quotable sentences in that proposal.
