I broke my left arm last Thursday afternoon. I was out bicycling and went over my handlebars right in front of the Lagoon theater at around 4:40 pm. I knew immediately from looking at my arm that something was seriously wrong with it. After the accident I got up, dragged my bike onto a relatively out of the way spot on the sidewalk, and then walked the two blocks to the Fairview Uptown clinic. Somewhere in those two blocks my wrist popped back to something approaching normal (I'm pretty sure it was dislocated) but my arm was still in pretty bad shape. I made it into the clinic where they treated me for shock and called an ambulance. One of the people there also volunteered to go and get my bike and store it until I could come back and get it. When I got to the Fairview Riverside Hospital they x-rayed my arm and confirmed that both of the bones in my left forearm were broken. They operated on my arm on Friday night to attach a plate to each bone with screws to hold them in place so they would heal properly, and released me on Saturday morning with my arm in a splint and wrap. Friday morning I'm scheduled to go in for a followup appointment to have a hard cast put on. Other than the arm I'm fine, though I seem to tire fairly easily and need a lot of sleep. Laurel came up from Mitchell on Saturday to help out (yay Laurel), and will probably be here through this Saturday, so I'm not looking for any help right now, but starting next week I might want some help occassionally doing things that are hard to do one handed (like grocery shopping).
