kevingaustinAfter a long gap I finally went for another ride on my BikeE.
I started out thinking that since I hadn't ridden for a while that I'd take it easy and just go for a ride around Lake Harriet. After I got about 3/4 of the way around however I decided that I felt pretty good so I would do a loop around Lake Calhoun as well. At the half way point around Calhoun I started thinking that I'd been meaning to check out the Midtown Greenway for a while and see how much progress they'd made since the last time that I'd ridden on it. And so...
After the Greenway petered out I took the Hiawatha trail north up to the Metrodome, turned around went back to the Greenway and took the Greenway to the Bryant Ave. exit and took Bryant home. The pedestrian and bike traffic around Lake Harriet was crazy. There are two paths around Harriet, one for bicycles and one for pedestrians, but they only plow the outer bicycle path during the Winter and during that time they designate it as for both bikes and pedestrians. This usually works fairly well during the colder months because traffic is very light, but with this past weekend's warm up people were out in force and both paths were crowded with people. It wouldn't have been so bad but I still don't fully have the hang of steering the BikeE and a couple of times I almost ran over some people. Oddly enough Lake Calhoun was much less crowded than Lake Harriet, it's usually the other way around. The Greenway was even less crowded than Lake Calhoun and the Hiawatha trail was almost empty. The scenery this time of year left a lot to be desired, but I can see that once the gardens start greening up the Greenway will definitely live up to its name. All in all it was a very enjoyable first ride of the season.
