Simple reason: Adam is at Minicon 50 as musician GoH, but he does not stop being an author (Jane does not stop being a poet, editor, etc.) for the duration of the con.
I'm somewhat torn between the first version, that lists Michael Whelan but not Tom Doherty, and the second version, that lists Tom Doherty but not Michael Whelan. I really don't like the third or fourth versions which capitalize Musician but don't capitalize author or publisher. I'm poor enough at punctuation that I really can't comment on such things as the use of colon, semicolon, and commas (serial or otherwise).
I do not have an art focus, so I didn't notice what should have been Michael Whelan's conspicuous absence. Why can't there be another version with similar phrasing but listing all GoHs?
I'm fairly certain that Michael Whelan is missing from the Minicon 50 home page because he was a later addition and the Minicon 50 webmaster just hasn't gotten around to adding him. I'm uncertain why Tom Doherty is missing from the GoH list on the main Minicon page.
If you're asking why I don't have a version listing all GoHs in the poll it's because I'm only using the versions on the Minicon page and the Minicon 50 home page.
I suppose I could have added the version from the Minicon 50 registration form:
Author Guests of Honor: Jane Yolen, Larry Niven, Brandon Sanderson Musician Guest of Honor: Adam Stemple Artist Guest of Honor: Michael Whelan Publisher Guest of Honor: Tom Doherty
I do have an art focus. Michael Whelan should be listed in any version we post.
I wonder about the order of listing. Should authors be listed alphabetically by first or last name? in order of seniority? in order of prominence on some market list? Is this presently random?
Author, Musician, Editor, etc. should all be capitalized.
But if he's at M50 as musician GoH, then why shouldn't we list him like that instead of as "with"?
Along these lines, if he wants to be listed as Fan GoH or author GoH or fan/author/musician GoH, I'd be fine with any of those. We flapped back and forth during M49 as to whether Janny was an artist GoH or an artist/author GoH because we were trying to list her as she wanted to be listed (and were having some trouble figuring that out).
I see. That's pretty subtle and I'm not sure I can bring myself to worry about it on a regular basis. If it bothers Adam exactly how we lay the words out, we'll certainly change it, of course.
Makes sense. It's certainly not to the level that I would have approached the concom about it, but once it was there on my friendslist saying, "Which do you like best?", that's why I liked that best.
Apologies to all for the odd "The version in the News section of the Minicon 50 home page:" in the poll. It's left over from a previous attempt to post the poll and I can't figure out how to edit a poll once it's been posted.
Your various options differ in more than one way from each other and I'm not clear on what "main page" implies as opposed to "home page sub-heading", so I didn't tick a box. Here are some of my opinions that can be used to prefer one option over another in various conflicting ways:
I would prefer they be listed as "guest of honor" and not "with".
I'm not big into being "proud to announce".
I don't think it matters whether it says "author" separately in front of each author or whether authors are given as a list with "author" said only once.
I don't think that GoH should be listed only as "news", since they are permanent.
Oh, reading the comments I see it's because we have all of them at once.
I know you know this, but it would be much more effective to directly say this to me or Joe. We aren't some faceless entity, and would/will actually fix problems as they are pointed out.
On the MN-StF page, list Minicon 50 and the names of the GoH's. The current Minicon page is okay, but probably needs updating. The current Minicon 50 page is redundant but not specific. The names are listed twice, but their GoHdom is not specified.
I also wish you would emphasize, in one or more of these places, that Minicon 50 will be a Big Deal, and we're encouraging former GoHs and, indeed, all former attendees to come.

At least that version lists all of the GoHs.

It may not be known who the web maintainers are by name, and communication skills vary widely within the most known members of the concom.
