No more extensions on my contract here so unless something happens this week I guess I'm back to being unemployed. If you know anyone who is hiring and could use a senior level programmer with C/Perl/SQL/UNIX experience please point them at my resume.

Have you done much C with oracle stuff?

Unfortunately no. The Oracle experience that I've had was with Perl/DBI/DBD::Oracle not C.

Sure. But he's a fan; when it comes to geekitry, of course he's a fast learner. (Term "geekitry" used admiringly.)

Actually instead I think he should point out that SQL interaction is SQL interaction regardless of language. The actual communication library is just a library or stored process or whatever. It's not the hard part.

If you know "C" and "SQL" I doubt it's a very large leap to knowing "C and SQL."

Of course, I do all my SQL interaction (Oracle and MySQL) in done in shell scripts, so what do I know?

So far I've done C/database interaction in three different ways. First was Unify where I used their Host Language Interface. It was a library of C functions that hooked directly into the guts of the database. Next was Sybase where I used the Entera implementation of DCE to do remote procedure calls to submit SQL to the database. And finally there was Informix where I used embedded SQL. So for all I know Oracle/C might mean one of those three ways, or it could mean something entirely different.
