Have any of you tried any of the other local games stores? Looking online I've found Dreamers (in St. L. P.) and Monster Den (in Mpls.), and Universe Games (in Richfield). Any opinions on these? Any others close by that I've missed? I really don't want to have to go all the way to The Source when I'm shopping for games, dice, etc.

Universe Games is owned and operated by someone I've known for years. Good guy too. If you need or want something he doesn't have I bet he'd get it for you. I recommend him.

He comes to Minicon -- I recognized him when I first saw him.

Universe doesn't carry much in the way of RPGs, mostly just board games and D&D, but he said he's planning to start carrying more RPGs in the future.

...

Monster Den also doesn't have many RPGs beyond D&D. Both it and Universe are nice spaces, though -- much more friendly to in-store gaming than Phoenix has been since it moved next door.

That would be Angelo. You'll probably recognize him, too, Kevin. Nice guy, comes to game parties at our house every now and again. He just opened his store about 2 years ago (?) at a different location, has moved to current location pretty recently. For a while he was having game nights over there on weekday evenings and Richard was dropping in. It's certainly you closest game store with Phoenix going away - worth checking out just to be neighborly.

Dreamers is near where I live. It is geared toward CCG and Miniature games like Chainmail and Warhammer. It carries some standard WotC, WW, FFG, and Atlas RPG stuff as well as gamer-oriented magazines. It's small and tends to be overrun with pre-teens.

FYI, I'm finding the color combo on your comments page incredibly hard on my eyes - almost unreadable.

Of course you can format your LJ any way you want, but I thought you might like to know that it's very difficult to read, at least in my browser with fluorescent lights overhead.
